Lori is a body-mind psychotherapist. Her work is grounded in a number of somatic approaches, including Somatic Experiencing™ Neuro-Affective Touch™ and also psycho-dynamic, and narrative approaches exploring the embodiment of personal, cultural, and social narratives. Collaborative therapeutic work with Lori involves skill-building in body-centred practices, cultivating interoceptive awareness, and renegotiating the imprint of trauma in the nervous system.
Lori received a Master of Arts in Somatic Psychology from the California Institute of Integral Studies (1995), and a PhD from Memorial University (2019). Lori is a Somatic Experiencing Practitioner (SEP), a Professional Member of the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association (CCPA #3865) and an active member of the United States Association for Body Psychotherapy (USABP).
When clients have experienced loss – of a loved one, relationship, career, or sense of self – Lori’s grounded, listening presence provides a healing salve. Lori has experience working with dying persons and their families, bereaved persons, and those who feel overwhelmed by life’s challenges when anxious feelings and sensations arise with traumatic stress and loss. Lori has worked with healthcare professionals, home caregivers, street-involved youth, managing health and life-cycle transition changes including gendered/2SLGBTQ+ challenges.
Lori has focused on a number of somatic modalities since the late 1980’s including Body Mind Centering, Sensory Awareness, craniosacral therapy, energy medicine, and Authentic Movement. These somatic approaches are particularly effective in dealing with cumulative, chronic and traumatic stress. Lori is a Somatic Experiencing Practitioner (SEP) and is an assistant in trainings offered through the International Somatic Experiencing Trauma Institute.
